Plains Dairy…Re-Fueling the Buffs
Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Sarah Ramey is responsible for getting the Buffs and Lady Buffs in tip-top shape. She also helps guide the nutritional intake of athletes.
Coach Ramey knows that lowfat chocolate milk is one of the best natural sources of vitamins, minerals and protein that speed the recovery process after grueling workouts.
According to the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, “postexercise hydration should aim to correct any fluid loss accumulated during the practice or event,” and maintaining hydration is key for health and physical function. Rehydration beverages should include water, carbohydrates and electrolytes – a nutrition profile that closely matches lowfat milk.
Enter Plains Dairy. The local company and longtime supporter of WT agreed to stock the athletics weight room with a constant supply of lowfat chocolate milk, and student-athletes love it.
“Plains Dairy supplying us with chocolate milk has been a great addition to our strength and conditioning program,” says Ramey. “Our athletes are able to replenish their bodies with the optimal ratio of carbohydrate and protein at the completion of a weight room workout.”
“The nutrition they get immediately after a lift allows them to recover better for the next workout and allow their muscles to grow. They look forward to drinking it each day because it tastes great as well.”
Dub Garlington, President of Plains Dairy and a WT alum, was more than happy to help. “We started with five cases a week and are now up to ten per week. We are honored to help the strength program, which benefits all the teams at WT.”
