Children and Obesity

The rates of childhood obesity have skyrocketed over the last three decades. Currently, nearly one out of every three children are overweight in America today. Contributing factors such as the high availability of fast food, increased access to video games and TV, and less physical exercise are contributing factors to the epidemic. Children across the nation are being diagnosed with conditions such as hypertension and Type 2 Diabetes, conditions that in decades past were found in only adults. The childhood obesity crisis is in desperate need to reduce the catastrophic numbers that continue to rise.

The Whole Milk Solution

In a recent study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, researchers discovered that children who consumed whole milk were 40% less likely to become obese or overweight. These findings suggest that a large proportion of young children are more likely to maintain a balanced BMI (body mass index) if they consume full fat milk in moderation. The study conducted at St. Michaels Hospital in Toronto, Canada, consisted of 2,700 children ages 2 to 6.

Despite its simplicity, milk can have incredible benefits to the overall health and wellness of growing kids.
